Dahon 30th anniDahon is the world’s largest manufacturer of folding bicycles with a two-thirds marketshare in 2006.  The company was founded by David T. Hon, a widely referenced former laser physicist.  The company was founded in 1982 and is headquartered in Los Angeles, California, with assembly factories in China and Europe

Tern  is based in Taipei, Taiwan and has offices in the US, China, Finland, and the UK. The company’s primary products include folding bicycles and cycling accessories, which are currently sold in 65 countries. Though founded only in 2011, the company’s bikes have already received a number of international design awards, including iF and Red Dot awards.

Bike Friday emphasizes riding characteristics rather than foldability. It packs into a suitcase and “rides like your best bike” according to Ed Pavelka, former senior editor of Bicycling magazine. The company’s co-founders and designers hail from a racing background, rather than a traditional engineering background. The company history says they sought to invent a packable bicycle that rode well over serious distances, loaded or unloaded, to save airline baggage fees.

The range includes tandems, triplets, road, mountain and touring models, a freight bicycle, and a bicycle that adjusts in sizing. Each fits into one or two standard suitcases that can be converted to a towable trailer.

Most Bike Fridays are built to order, and all are built in their USA Eugene factory

Founded by Mr Masahito Hirose in 2004, Japanese bicycle maker, Tyrell is famed for their mini-velo bikes. What is noteworthy is that the brand has already garnered numerous design awards in Japan, even before their products were first launched to the consumer market in 2005. Not surprising considering the fact that all Tyrell bikes are designed and assembled in Japan under the strict supervision of Mr Hirose.

MIT CYCLE SOURCING LTD. was founded in December 2010 with great enthusiasm for specific bicycle development and manufacturing.  20 years of technical and manufacturing experiences stimulate typical bike designing sensation.  Derived from proficient bike assembly basis, positive attitudes and rich experiences steady the position of MIT in folding bike development field

  1. Hi,
    – Do you have TERN LINK UNO in Black, and the price please.
    – Also, looking for an indoor cycling trainer to work with a folding bike, any recommendation and price range please. Thanks.

    1. We have the 2014 Design Link Uno going for S$799 matt black. You can buy it at MBS Tres located at 106 Faber Drive near Jalan Lempeng. Most trainers now have an adapter to allow the lower clearance wheel height to fit on the trainer.

  2. hi,i bought a mit from you last year, was thinking of upgrading,is it able to upgrade to 22speed,without compromising the fold?
if there is a need i will change the wheelset as well.
    thank you

  3. Hi, I’m a beginner, what brand and model would you recommend for commuting and daily 14km ride. What good to start with and which is around $500. thank you.

    1. Based on your distance, anything with 6-7 speeds would do fine. If space is not an issue, you can look at any bicycles with that format. But with folding bikes you can do the ride fold cycle on MRT and buses on stipulated times. If you are open to folding bikes which we specialised in , opt for one with a adjustable handlepost to adjust for the optimum shoulder and arm height. The Bickertons are popular in this category and they start from S$499. https://mybikeshopsg.com/2015/11/17/offering-foldable-bikes-at-that-s500-level-that-offers-global-make-and-quality/
