Of Foldables, Swallows, Schwalbe, Tern – a home grown famous lark came and made our day!

My Bike Shop have always had a good share of celebs and famous figures;  Mr Brown (father of blog and podcast) , Mindee Ong (TCS actress of 881 fame) , Sheila Sim (Singapore’s top model) and even a Presidential candidate (Dr Tan Cheng Bock). We are really honoured to be able to serve you!

A few interesting things to note though, we have Schwalbe which is a german word for a “Swallow”, Flamingobikes and coming soon “Tern” which is a small Artic bird.  My Bike Shop seems to have many brands linked to birds. Birds of a feather flock together?

Today we had the pleasure to serve our very own home grown singer that has got international standing. On behalf of the team, we thank you for your patience and gracing your presence.  She now has a personally set up Dahon Vector X10 and she rides fast! Sorry folks, no pictures or celeb pictures you typically find at seafood restaurants :) . We just want them to be relaxed at My Bike Shop！

This is the symbol of the celeb who grace our shop today – trust me she is really nice ( and so were her friends and hubby)

MBS is opened tomorrow and may the best Tan win the Singapore Presidential election 2011

My Bike Shop will open tomorrow from noon to 8pm as per normal but we will be CLOSED on Monday and on Tuesday for the Public Holiday. We will resume normal operations on 31 August Wednesday.

Please cast your votes wisely tomorrow, the Singapore President should not just have government background but one who is both wise and kind.

PS -  one of the 4 candidates actually owns 2 Dahons. Hint: He is the one who was responsbile for recommending the Free parking at HDB carparks on Sundays to encourage families to visit/spend time together which regretably is being changed at many Carparks these days for purpose of collecting more parking revenue and easing parking woes. We already have already so many garmen members in parliament, we do need a wise and alternative voice.

OCBC Cycle 2011 weekend starts TODAY

MBS Dahon Dealer Demo Day – The rain did not deter us!!

Today was a wet and fun day. Our registered customers and guests came by and had a chance to touch, feel and ride the 2011 Dahon Vector and Dash Series.

The rain was something that we thought would deter turnout BUT the turnout was still very good! A few of our friends got wet but they said this was the BEST way to test a bike – dry and wet!! LoL

Togoparts was here to do an exclusive coverage and Dahon exclusive distributor –  Speedmatrix were around to help explain the new bikes to the guests. But for the newbies to Dahon, here is a guide:

Dash is a new variant in the Minivelo category: Existing riders of the Tyrell FX said that the Dash is worth the consideration. Congrats to the new owners of the Vector series – Watch out for them!

MBS will be out in full force with our suspension folding bikes so you will get to see and trial the Dahon Jetstream EX, Dahon Jetstream P8, Flamingo Sus-09 and  the Dahon Speed P8

On Sunday 14 Nov, we will meet at Yishun Stadium 730 am and cycle to the Woodlands Waterfront  along Mandai Rd, the scenic PCN, final destination Woodlands waterfront. We will proceed to the nearby coffeeshop for breakfast sponsored by My Bike Shop for ALL MBS members. We will then make a return ride after the carnival. Getting there:

For those who drive, please park at the HDB carpark areas for free Sunday parking (not Stadium parking areas) 

For those who take the SMRT, get off at Khatib NS 14 Station and cycle towards the Stadium. Remember to bring a bag to cover your bike as per SMRT regulations

As we enter our 6th year of serving Singapore’s folding needs, being the true folding bikes specialist in Singapore with the top 7 leading brands from all over the world, with more than over 40 models to choose from in a 1500 sq feet retail space that just focuses on folding bikes, kayaks and more, with more than 5 years in operation, 6 days a week!

 Opening hours remain the same – 12 noon to 8pm and we close on Sundays and major PH.

WHY the EXTRA day?

We love our setup and we love helping our customers get their ideal folding bike, kayak or accessories.  Sure it does mean we have less time off  but we do find our job fun and interacting with our customers really gives us satisfaction and having another day to clear our work MEANS we are less stressed on the other days. We will now open 6 days a week so that we can serve you better. No appointments needed, experienced full time staff to handle your questions and answers, trained tech staff to fix/upgrade your bikes and a wide pool of folding bikes with different folding systems for you to try. This is about credentials not hype.

Article in Chinese but a very well written article, mentioning what matters in folding bikes and showcasing what’s most important - our customers and their pride foldables!

My Bike Shop – being a specialist in folding bikes have >7 brands and > 40 models to choose from. Not all folding bikes are the same. If you need help and advice on which folding bike works for you, do not just look at the price and make assumptions that all folding bikes are the same – THEY ARE NOT!

We have Dahon, Flamingobikes, Airnimal, Tyrell, Alex Moulton, Bike Friday, Lamborghini, Zigo, Aeon…there is a folding bike with your desired folding system waiting for you.

While we would love to post up all our members and their foldable bike(s), but with thousands of owners who would turn up, we would need a wide screen lens :)  Maybe we would try one day… Maybe SPH would do another feature and we get EVERYONE to come…

Bring your Internet with your bicycle (bus, car, kayak or boat… everywhere)

Technology and the world of wireless communications have come such a long way. Still remember those days when you had to use calling cards to call from hotels and fixed lines and payphones. Make use of bulletin boards to communicate overseas and in groups. The Internet and especially 3G mobile broadband has changed EVERYTHING.

My Bike Shop has always had wifi access for our customers and adopted the web to help compliment our rides, service and news of what’s buzzing.  As such you typically find our customers “multitasking” time checking on emails and surfing the Net while waiting for their bikes to be fixed.

Guess what? MBS now brings our Wifi hotspot – MOBILE!  We recently deployed the Huawei E5 Pocket Wifi next generation Mobile broadband Device (what a mouthful),  You can buy them at It stores without plan or get them with a plan from either SingTel or StarHub.

and now on our rides and away events, we will have wifi acess onto the Net.  This gadget is really something..all you do is switch it on, it finds the Mobile Operator 3G Network  and Boom!!…you are on the grid! It supports all wifi enabled devices from Digital Cameras, PSPs, Smartphones to iPads to even notebooks. With technology, we are looking at buying a digital HD videocam to strap onto our bikes /helmets and videostream live footage for upcoming rides. ( any sponsors? LoL)

Downside is that it supports only 5 concurrent users at any one time and inbuilt battery lasts only 4 hours.  Still,  charging is easy via USB and during stops, photo shots or exigencies, no need to fret – My Bike Shop – your first stop for folding bikes, kayaks and more has mobile internet for YOU! So you can Tweet, Flickr, PhotoBucket, Youtube live!
