Face to face with the elements & your personal limits

Apologies, was just distracted with F1 2010, among other projects  so the blog has been quiet.

Had a whale of a time with the 2010 F1 Night Race and also the  chance to just have a ride with some friends and start to do a review on a really cool project for Singapore. ( We will release this when its ready and we are confident it will change the way we explore Singapore.

Congrats to Ferrari and Alonso who won. These guys are amazing, 50+ degrees Celcius temperature and super fast response needed to tackle those curves at breakneck speeds.  Really seperates the boys and men.

Felt sorry for Lewis Hamilton (BTW he did look cool in his rash guard after the crash. Wonder if you can get one?). They have got to wear these under those 4 layers of anti fire clothing and without a rashguard beneath, they would be totally uncomfortable with perspiration between your skin.  But what a spoilt sport for just throwing his steering wheel after he got into a “bumping” incident with Webber.  Was disappointed that he would throw such a tantrum  at this International level of competition. He should have just let Webber through and overtake him in the next corner like a real champion. Looks like his strategy is not doing well with TWO DNF – Did not finished results. At least he has cool looking Nicole ( Pussycat Dolls Lead singer) to console him so he has really got alot STILL going for him. Next circuit, make that great COMEBACK!

Singapore is certainly becoming an international spot for global events (YOG, OCBC Cycle  Criterium, OSIM Tri etc)  and for avid athletes who can now truly give themselves a real platform to compete with the best and see where they stand with the fittest and the fastest.

For those who are young and can still aspire to compete – GO FOR IT man! It is worth the experience, do not wait till you are too old, injured or past your prime to do it,  by then regret is kind of too late and you would do it for recreational purposes.

Have a whale of a time.  These guys on a Folbot who came that close with the Whale would share the experience of a lifetime!  Picture courtesy of Folbot (It is not a doctored photo), so 100% original stuff.

Folbot Foldable Kayaks – its really a joy to own one

We have about a dozen Folbot owners in Singapore since we started as a Dealer for folding Kayaks. Folbots are 100% handmade in the USA and they come in all shapes and sizes. Perfect for the avid kayaker who does island hops but even more for those who do lots of seasports and enjoy being in the open water.

I know a guy who brings his kayak to Phuket and explores the caverns and waterways – did that last month and it IS beautiful in Phuket.  It was just great, armed with drinking water, i-Fit wear, a big hat and waterproof bag with my iPod and radio – its man and nature!

Recently Folbot release a Metroboat where they will “silkscreen” the Metro map onto the skin of the kayak.

In the recent flash floods in Singapore, some of our patrons even joked about buying one so that they can go explore when the waters rise. Unlikely this can be sustained.  While the best of us can put together the kayak in 20 mins,  it is the thrill of  the open waters that makes it worth your while.

The saddest thing is that the PUB has yet to issue a definitive set of rules for kayaking in our waterways. So while we can see the YOG having a  large seasport representation for Singapore, we are not doing the necessary to encourage more to take kayaking up or adventure kayaking. So looks like its the open waters for most of us.

Check out also the true life story of 2 guys who crossed the Tasmian Sea (The sea between Australia and NZ). It took them 62 day, their kayak was specially designed with state of art technology like Desalination, GPS, Solar cell and Inmarsat comms to send video feeds and telephony.

Really brave guys – inspiring!
