Bikes fitted with hub-driven gears are becoming increasing popular. They provide for many miles of maintenance-free biking plus the shifting is smooth and silent. The use of internal hub gear systems allow cyclists to conveniently shift their gears while stationary.

A good example would be dropping to a lighter set of gears while waiting at the traffic junction. Urban or touring bikes are being fitted with internal hub gear systems like the SRAM Dual-Drive or the Sturmey Archer CS-RF3 system.

In addition, the SRAM Dualdrive system actually weighs in lighter (250g less) than a standard derailleur drive train system. Based on the feedback of various customers, overall the SRAM Dualdrive system seems to be the more reliable and lighter hub gear system you would want to use on your bike.

1. Please check your Verge X10, X20, X30h, S11i AND Eclipse S11i. Frame Serial Numbers that start with AM1A and the series of AM1102 through AM1207, inclusive.

2. Customers who have purchased bicycles affected are to cease using the bicycle until the serial number can be checked.

3. Customers to check corresponding Service Tag Number online at http://www.ternbicycles.com/frame-replacement-notice. The Service Tag is located on the underside of the Down Tube of the bike and comprises a QR Code and corresponding Service Tag Number, the Service Tag Number is the 8-character serial number underneath the QR Code.

NOTE : Only S- and X-Level Verge and Eclipse frames are affected as only these use smooth TIG welding. For clarity, P-Level Verge and Eclipse frames are NOT affected.

So here we are, back to this topic again, but this time round we got the exclusive opportunity to view and even try out the new “Lethal Weapon” – Tyrell FSX! The exclusive launch was made possible thanks to Onesport Pte Ltd, who managed to secure the only one Tyrell FSX outside of Japan for Singapore.

The event started with Onesport giving us an introduction to their partnership with Tyrell Bikes Japan, we were also presented with the new range of Tyrell accessories such as the rear quick-release clamps, quick-release skewers in an assortment of eye-catching colours and quality finishings.

Not forgetting the Tyrell Race kits and Tyrell Tees are also available for purchase for all Tyrell fans out there! Their popular lightweight chain rings and bashguards, titanium seatposts and wheelsets (AM9, AF-1) are still among the stocked items in our stores!

The highlight of the event was the unveiling of the Tyrell FSX (of course!) and it was in the limited edition Lime Green/Yellow colour! This bike is not just an eye-candy, it comes spec’d with full SRAM Force group set, a full carbon monocoque fork and steerer (this alone cuts off 1 lb as compared to the FX fork), just to name a few.  This is definitely Mr Hirose’s best answer to customers that wanted a bike that can go faster and further, but still fold as well as the FX. The Tyrell FSX weighs in at a modest 8.8kg (with double chain rings and drop bar setup).

Here is an overview of the improvements made on the FSX model:

1)   Full Carbon Monocoque fork and steerer (improved vibration-dampening)

2)   Front pin now sits flushed and is completely silent against the carbon monocoque fork (good-bye to rattling noises!)

3)   All FSX will come with shims in the seat post (no more scratches on the seat post)

4)   FSX comes fitted with the double chain captive.

5)   Drop-bar with 55/44T chain rings.

6)   Carbon head tube spacers

7)   Internal cable-routing for a clean aerodynamic look

8)   Tapered head tube with a larger 1.4” lower head tube for increased stiffness and stability.

9)   Features new tube sets. Tear-drop shaped down tube (weight-saving) and triangular shaped top tube for increased ergonomics while carrying the bike.

Some innovations that we still see featured on the FSX and current models such as the CX, CSI and PK-1: Here is an overview of the improvements made on the FSX model:

1)   X Slant Design- for ride quality and stiffness unlike any other bike

2)   The folding joints run on bearings (uncommon on most folding bikes)- low friction, low wear rate, stronger joints and low maintenance.)

3)   Double safety on each joint (pin and knob)

Our participants were also treated to test rides on the Tyrell FSX around the huge Midview City compound, Q&A sessions with representatives from Onesport Ptd Ltd, light refreshments for the evening and also a bird’s eye view of almost all of the Tyrell Accessories that we carry.

On the 9^th March 2013, the inaugural DrHon Demo Day 2013 was launched at My Bike Shop Too! in collaboration with Speedmatrix Pte Ltd, with an astounding turn out of 50 participants for this memorable event. A subsequent DDD 2013 was also held on 30^th March 2013 at My Bike Shop @ Jalan Mas Puteh too!

2013 marks the 30^th Anniversary of Dahon bikes and is commemorated by the launch of their special collection, DrHon.

Our customers were treated to an eye-opening preview of 13 promising DrHon models (courtesy of Speedmatrix) amongst which, included the much-anticipated Visc P18, Vitesse D8 and the Jifo. Amidst the anticipation, our customers were also given a modest door gift as a token of our appreciation.

During the two hour event, customers had plenty of opportunities to take these demo bikes for a spin around the estate, try out the folding, learn some upgrade tips for their DrHon bikes from our resident “upgrade master” or simply chill out with their friends and our staff while enjoying the ice-cold drinks and pastries provided.

The highlight of the day had to be the lucky draw where two lucky MBS customers became proud owners of the trusty DrHon Vybe C7a (sponsored by Speedmatrix).

Do you know the Core muscles are one of the most important muscles for Cycling?
And that the rectus abdominus (a.k.a. six-pack muscles) are the least functional muscle for Cycling?

What they call as cycling’s tripod position, in which the saddle, pedals and handlebar support the rider’s weight, relies on core strength but sadly, does not help to build it! What’s interesting to note is that you just need about 15 minutes daily to do your core strengthening exercises.

Just a side note, we also need a strong core for daily activities such as carrying heavy objects, walking up the stairs, because the core muscles act as a stabilizing girdle for the lower back, glutes, hip flexors, hamstrings to just name a few.. A strong core distributes the stresses of weight-bearing and protects the back.
